Theory of Pythagoras

These are some questions we had to answer for our maths homework about the theorem of pythagoras!

The Theorem of Pythagoras
Walt:  understand the theorem of Pythagoras and show our thinking.

  1. What is a ‘theorem’?
    1. A theory proved by facts or scientific method.
  2. Who was Pythagoras?
    1. Pythagoras of Samos was an ancient Ionian Greek philosopher and mathematician.
  3. What did he do for a job?
    1. Pythagoras was an ancient philosopher and mathematician.
  4. Why did he do that?
    1. I don’t know,
  5. What was his claim to fame?
    1. He figured out that A squared + B squared = C squared on a triangle.
    2. He later named this theorem the Pythagorean Theorem.
  6. What is the importance of his theorem?
    1. You can now work out the length of the hypotenuse of a triangle
  7. Explain where it can be used.
    1. It can be used in a maths lesson
    2. Architectural design
    3. Building design
    4. Designing
  8. Prove the theorem with two diagrams showing your understanding.    Make sure that you show all of your working out.  Label your thinking around your diagrams.
