' The Giver' - Reflection

The Giver Book Cover

My Question - What is so jarring about the new list of rules that Jonas receives after the ceremony of Twelve ? What seems to bother him most about the list?

My Answer -
The rules that jarred him the most is the rule that he is allowed to lie. That bothers him because he has never ever been allowed to lie in his life and now all of a sudden he is allowed to and also that he is not allowed to talk to anyone about his training.

His rules that he has to follow for his job:
- He is only allowed medication for things unrelated to his job
- He is not allowed to discuss his training with anybody ever
- He has to reoprt to the Annex straight after school.
- He has to go straight home after training
- He is allowed to be rude
- He may lie

The Movie -
The movie probably wasn't the best they could have made it to match the book because . . .
1. In the book when he was receiving memories the giver put his hands on Jonas's back not his wrists.
2. Fiona did not become a nurturer she was assigned to work at the house of the old.
3. In the book Jonas did not have to jump off the edge of their community to get away from them.
4. He did not attack Asher on his way out of the community.
5. Gabe was sleeping in their house the night before he was going to be released not at the nurtring centre.
But in the end it was a great movie and we all had a good time!

My Dance Elective

In my elective we have been making our dances for the production and then filming them. Today is our last elective session this year and everyone in my elective are going to watch a dance movie to sum up our elective sessions. It has been really fun because I have learnt a lot of new dance moves and styles of dancing.

Speech: Tongue Twister

In writing we have been learning about speeches and debates. One of the things we tried is tongue twisters we had six tongue twisters to choose from (Red lorry yellow lorry, unique new york, which wristwatches are Swiss wristwatches, We surely shall see the sun shine soon, Which witch wished which wicked wish and One-One was a racehorse. Two-Two was one, too. When One-One won one race, Two-Two won one too) and then we had a competition on who out of your partners could could say on tongue twister five times the fastest, I won out of me and Rida. We were saying the racehorse one here is me saying it five times in 25 seconds.

Persuasive Writing

Here is my persuasive writing that I have been working on for the past few weeks.

Animals Shouldn’t be in Enclosures

Animals, animals, animals. Why can’t we all just be like all animals, and be wild? Because not all animals in the world are wild. If they can’t be free then why can we. We are animals too. When are they going to have the same rights as us. I am now going to tell you why I think that animals should never be kept in zoos or held captive.

Hunting, being in a group, natural things like this cannot happen in an enclosure. All of these things are things you think about when you hear the word ‘wild’ you think about running, being free, doing anything you like but think, these animals cannot do this because of some cruel humans who take them away from the world and never return them.

Animals are lot like humans have you realised. We need the same things to survive food, water and shelter. Most people know that, that is why you normally get a pet right? Because you think you are doing the right thing, but one thing you didn’t think about is, what if you were taken to a strange place where you don’t recognise anything but what you were brought there with wouldn’t you be scared and feel alone and trapped. That is what they probably feel like.

Have you ever realised that animals have their own minds and their own lives to live. Well did you know that animals are actually really smart and creative creatures like birds building their houses in trees out of sticks and how naked mole rats make their house underground and they don't die of being frozen to death.
Once again just to tell you once more, I believe that animals should never ever be kept in cages, enclosures and or held captive.

Technology: Electronics

Today in Electronics we soldered for the first time. We were soldered wires to copper tape on a piece of cardboard with soldering wire. Here is a picture of me while I was soldering and my soldering work.

PE: Social Dancing

In PE we have been learning to social dance. We have learnt seven different types of dances the Gay Gordons, Coconut Cream, Red Hot, Sha la la la la, Maxina, Sea Cruise and Bus Stop. It has been really fun and we have been able to dance with a wide range of year sevens and eights and have learnt a whole lot of new moves.
