Explaining: The Muscular System

Did you  know that every human (even children or babies) have 600 muscles in their body? Yes, you are not reading incorrect, 600 muscles. So don’t be ashamed if you see someone that looks like they have more muscles than you, well they actually don’t. That person has just used their muscles a lot to make them grow larger than yours. Did you also know that humans have three different types of muscles smooth muscles, cardiac muscles and skeletal muscles. Your muscles are like elastic so they can bend and twist and turn in any way you want.

Smooth Muscles
Smooth muscles are involuntary muscles that means that they move or do their job without you having to do anything, so your smooth muscles are automatic muscles. Your smooth muscles are essential for you to survive because these muscles help digest your food and control your urine (pee). If you didn’t have smooth muscles you may not digest your food properly and get indigestion and you would pee all the time, wouldn’t that be a nice world. Now I guess you are wondering how these muscles do these things, well,  your smooth muscles create a layer in your bladder called a sphincter which contracts and relaxes to control your pee. Your smooth muscles are also found in your stomach where they help push the food down that you had just swallowed this is one of the main reasons that you need smooth muscles. You can also find smooth muscles in most of your organs like your stomach, intestines and bladder in between your outer and inner lining.

Cardiac Muscles
First lets start off with a fact the word “Cardiac,” means heart related which means that all of your cardiac muscles are found in your heart. Cardiac muscles are also involuntary muscles and just incase you forgot that means that they work without you even trying to move a muscle. Your heart is a cardiac muscle because it is heart related and it contracts and relaxes to pump blood around your body. The heart is also part of your circulatory system but here we are talking about the muscular system.

Skeletal Muscles
Skeletal muscles are voluntary muscles ,what do you think that means? You guessed it these muscles move under your control so you choose when the move, where they move to and how they move. Since these muscles are under your control you can choose to relax or contract these any time you like. Skeletal muscles are also controlled by a different system these muscles are controlled by your nervous system but once again that is a totally different story. These are all your main skeletal muscles pectorals, triceps, biceps, quadriceps, gluteus maximus, hamstring and calf muscles.

Now that you have learnt all about this amazing body system why not learn about more like the heart in the circulatory system and your skeletal muscles in your nervous system, go and visit some of my friends blogs to find out more.
